Topic: Rules for IRC

This is my proposal for a post that should be added to the Announcements forum for those people who seem to miss what exactly the #aw channel rules are:

#1: There is no swearing allowed in the #aw channel.  The ops in the channel have permission to kick and ban any offender on the FIRST offence.  While swearing is viewed differently by different people, for the purposes of this rule, the following applies:
- Any words you would not say in front of a 5 year old are considered swearing.
- Any words you would not use in the general public are considered swearing.
- Any word that would not make it onto national television or the radio before 22:00 without being bleeped out is considered swearing.
- Any word that you would not use in speaking to your parents before you turned 15 is considered swearing.
- Please note that any word that another individual finds offensive can be considered swearing.
- Anything not covered specifically in this listing is subject to the discretion of the ops.

#2: Abuse towards others in the channel will not be tolerated.  Ops are allowed to use their discretion in this category as to how they will proceed.  Swearing at others is not tolerated, and also falls under category #1 of the rules.  This will result in an automatic ban.  Other forms of abuse will be tolerated in whatever manner the channel ops deem appropriate, as follows:
- Continuous, unwarranted assaults on another player's character may result in removal from the channel or a ban.
- Abuse towards the Development Team will not be tolerated if it is not presented in a constructive manner.  This may result in a warning, kick, or ban.
- Abuse towards any member of the channel with user access of 100 or higher will not be tolerated unless presented in a constructive manner.  This may result in a warning, kick, or a temporary ban.
- Unfounded accusations with no substantiating proof will never be tolerated, and may result in a warning or a kick.
- Nick stealing will never be tolerated and may result in a kick, ban, or other in-game consequences, depending on the severity of the situation.
- Anything not covered specifically in this listing is subject to the discretion of the ops.

#3: There is to be no spamming in the #aw channel.  Spamming shall include:
- Anything continuously repeated which interferes with the flow of a conversation, regardless of whether a conversation is currently taking place.  This may result in a warning or a kick.
- Any person continuously speaking many lines of text in a row, in an effort to disrupt conversation flow, regardless of whether the lines of text are the same, or whether a conversation is currently taking place.  This may result in a warning or a kick.
- While recruiting for your alliance is not prohibited in #aw, you are encouraged to do so in a manner that does not interfere with the flow of conversation, regardless of whether or not a conversation is taking place.  Continuously restating the same recruitment line in a manner which may interfere with conversation is not encouraged, nor is continuously bothering/pestering players to join your alliance.  If this becomes a problem, you may be warned or kicked.
- Anything not covered specifically in this listing is subject to the discretion of the ops.

#4: The only language permitted in #aw is English.  While this may sound like a harsh rule, it is in no way meant as an affront to any player, or their rights.  While we encourage you to maintain your identity, heritage, culture, and ethnic rights, including language, we cannot effectively control a channel when we do not speak the language being used.  To ensure the enforcement of Channel Rules #1 and #2, we need to be able to understand what is being said in the channel, which we cannot do if the language is not one we speak.  Therefore, the following stipulations apply:
- The only instance under which you may use a language other than English is if you have been given express permission from one of the ops or a member with voice, for a logical reason.  This may include that English is not your native language, but they can effectively communicate with you in the language you are currently using.  This is a complicated rule, and is entirely up to the discretion of the ops.
- You may only speak English in the correct manner.  This means writing backwards is not permitted, and in addition to other penalties, "uoy yam eb dekcom rof gnieb na toidi".  Speaking backwards may result in a warning or a kick.
- Pig Latin is NOT considered to be English, nor is any other form of code based upon the English language.  These may result in a warning or a kick.
- Anything not covered specifically in this listing is subject to the discretion of the ops.

#5: All scripts should be disabled in #aw.  Scripts can become annoying when overused, and may fall under category #3, depending on what the script does.  While certain scripts may be entirely appropriate, others, such as the "now playing" script only tend to aggravate others.  The following scripts should NOT be active in #aw:
- Any script which causes a reply containing swearing (as obvious under rule #1).  This may result in a warning or a kick.
- Any script which continually types something into the channel (as per rule #3).  This may result in a warning or a kick.
- Any script which may interfere with the ability of others to effectively communicate in the channel.  This may result in a warning or a kick.
- Any script that automatically opens a PM with another user on a specific statement.  This may result in a warning or a kick.
- Any script that has an automatic reply feature is not suggested, as it could potentially fall under rule #3.  This may result in a warning or a kick.
- Anything not covered specifically in this listing is subject to the discretion of the ops.

#6: Do not PM the ops in the channel.  If you need to speak with an op, or a member of the Development Team, you are more than welcome to do so in the channel.  However, the ops are often busy people, and the Development Team always are so.  For this reason, do not PM an op without their permission.  If you need something immediately brought to the attention of a member of the Dev Team or an op, please request permission in the channel before you PM them.  If an op or Dev Team member are not present, feel free to speak with anyone with access of 100 or greater.  These people have the access for the plain and simple reason that they are trusted by the Development Team.  Also, you can feel free to PM any member with voice (access 100) if you so desire.  Please do not pester the ops or the Dev Team with meaningless garbage via PMs.  This may result in a warning or a kick.

#7: Talking in capital letters is not allowed on a continuous basis in #aw.  Please ensure that your caps lock is off when speaking, as this may be considered yelling, screaming, or just plain annoying.  This may result in a warning or a kick.  As always, the ops are allowed to use their own discretion.

#8: Posting coordinates, be they yours or someone elses, is not permitted. Doing so is likely to result in you being mocked, if you post your own, accidently, as well as a warning. Repeated posting will result in a kick, or temporary ban.

Please note that any and all of these rules are at the discretion of the ops, and a harsher punishment may always be given.  Also note that every time you are warned or kicked for a transgression, it will be noted on a forum, and multiple transgressions of the warning or kicking variety may result in a ban.  Please also note that bans may either be permanent or temporary, and may be lifted at the discretion of the Development Team or whichever op banned you.

As for Swearing, if at any time you are faced with a question as to whether or not it is considered swearing and/or allowed or not, then be mature enough to relize that if you are questioning it, it's probably best to error on the side of caution and not.

Credit for the write up and inital conception goes to Fancy. - good work.
